• American Andy Roddick defeated Radek Stepanek to win the men’s title in Brisbane International Tennis Championship.
• Togo’s National Soccer Team: was attacked by the gunmen when they were going for African Nations Cup.
• Indian Hockey Team: was in news as hockey players deciding to boycott the ongoing world cup preparatory camp in protest against non-payment of their dues.
• Ranji Trophy Final: Mumbai and Karnataka will clash in the final. Ranji trophy is associated with cricket.
• Walgreens: The largest drugstore chain of US, announced a 10 year-outsourcing deal with India’s BPO provider Genpact.
• C-17 Globemaster III: Strategic airlift aircraft, each of which comes for over whopping $220 million, the government has approached Washington for a deal of 10 such aircrafts.
• AUTO EXPO: going on in Delhi.
• Direct Taxes: which include corporate tax, personal income tax, wealth tax etc, net direct tax collection was Rs. 2.50 lakh crore during April-December 2009-10 compared to Rs. 2.30 lakh crore during the corresponding period previous fiscal, rose by 8.5%.
• 8th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas: going on in New Delhi, some 1500 delegates from 50 countries are attending the conclave.
• In a bid to further improve information communication technology (ICT) in schools, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved revised scheme on ICT which will cover about 1.08 lakh government, government aided secondary and higher secondary schools and would help to bridge the digital divide. HRD minister Kapil Sibal informed that the revised scheme, involving a cost of Rs 6,929 crore, would enable teachers and students to get acquainted with the ICT system.
• Burj Dubai, the tallest building of the world in Dubai, has now been renamed to Burj Khalifa.
• Sachin Tendulkar has become the highest tax-payer among sportspersons in the country for the last quarter of December of 2009, Sachin paid Rs. 1.5 crore for the quarter.
• 74th Senior National Badminton Championship: Chetan Anand claimed his fourth national title while Trupti Murgunde clinched her maiden one by winning the men’s and women’s singles title respectively at Guwahati.
• Dr B C Roy Trophy in the Junior (U-19) National Football Championship: Karnataka defeated Orissa to claim the title.
• Royal Trophy Golf: Held at Chonburi (Thailand), Europe emerged victors over Asia to regain the trophy.
• The government plans to raise around Rs. 11000 crore by disinvesting 5% stake in NTPC.
• Difficult fund raising conditions slowed the pace of private equity (PE) investments in the country by 64% to a four-year low of $3.8 billion in 2009.
• International Conference on “Buddhist Heritage”: Organized by the Gujarat government from 15-17 January in Vadodara.

Hi Sunil,

Good to see some one initiating such a good blog useful to many aspirants. I have one personnel question to ask regarding the marks you scored in the mains. All i know as of today is 486 is the highest mark in mains excluding the interview. Can i know how many marks you scored. May be this can help me streamline my work. Also individual marks also can help.
